Skin Barriers

Ostomy skin barriers, also known as "wafers", are one of the two components in a two piece ostomy system. The other is the ostomy pouch and this can be either drainable  or a closed end type. Skin barriers are placed over the stoma and adhere onto the skin to form a seal that (in best results) doesn't need changing for 5-7 days.  Not always the case.  A flange on the skin barrier is sized to match with a flange on the pouch to form a perfect fit.  You want to use the same brand for a skin barrier and pouch to ensure the best fit.
