Frequently Asked Questions: SenSura Mio Deep Convex Pouch (13/16" Pre-Cut)
What does "deep convex" mean, and how do I know if I need it? Convexity adds outward curve to the skin barrier, which helps the stoma protrude further into the pouch — useful for stomas that are flush, retracted, or surrounded by uneven or soft abdominal tissue. Deep convexity provides more curve than soft/light convexity, typically recommended for more significantly retracted stomas or firmer abdomens that can tolerate more pressure. If you're unsure which convexity level is right for you, this is worth confirming with your WOCN nurse before ordering, since the wrong convexity can cause discomfort or pressure injury on some body types.
This is a 13/16" pre-cut size — what if my stoma doesn't match that exactly? Pre-cut barriers work best when your stoma size is stable and matches the opening closely — the opening should clear your stoma by roughly 1/16"–1/8", not more. If your stoma is still changing size (common in the months after surgery) or doesn't match a standard pre-cut size, a cut-to-fit version of this same product (SKU 16765 or 16767) may fit better until your size stabilizes.
Is this a one-piece or two-piece system? One-piece. The skin barrier and pouch are a single unit, so there's no separate flange to attach — simpler to apply, though the whole unit is replaced together rather than swapping just the pouch.
How long can I wear this before changing it? Wear time varies by individual, skin condition, and output type, typically ranging from 1–4 days for most users, but always change earlier if you notice itching, burning, leaking, or lifting at the edges — don't wait out a wear-time estimate once these signs appear.
Can I shower or swim with this pouch on? Yes, SenSura Mio's adhesive is designed to be water-resistant for normal showering. For swimming or extended water exposure, many users add waterproof tape around the barrier edge for extra security.
What does the EasiClose wide outlet do? It's the drainable closure at the bottom of the pouch — the wide outlet is designed to make emptying and cleaning faster and reduce residue buildup compared to narrower drainable outlets.
What's the Full Circle Filter for? It vents gas from the pouch to help prevent ballooning, while filtering odor — helping the pouch stay flatter and more discreet under clothing.
Does this pouch have belt tabs? Yes — belt tabs are included if you use an ostomy support belt, which can add stability and help extend wear time, especially during activity.
Will insurance or Medicare cover this product? This product is billed under HCPCS code A4389. Coverage varies by plan — check with your insurance provider or Medicare plan directly, or contact our team and we can help you understand how this code is typically billed.
Opaque vs. transparent — does it matter which I choose? It's personal preference. Opaque pouches are more discreet and hide output from view; transparent pouches make it easier to visually check the stoma and output, which some people prefer especially soon after surgery. This SKU is opaque — the same pouch is also available in transparent (SKU 16770).
