ConvaTec DuoDERM® Extra Thin dressing is a hydrocolloid dressing indicated for the management of lightly exuding wounds. It combines a unique ConvaTec hydrocolloid formulation that distinguishes it from other hydrocolloid dressings and a vapor-permeable outer film to provide an occlusive moist environment.

ConvaTec's DuoDERM® Extra Thin wound dressing is a thin, flexible, conformable and moisture-resistant wound dressing that protects susceptible areas anywhere on the body to gently protect newly formed tissue or skin at risk of breakdown. The DuoDerm has a translucent backing that is designed to prevent needless dressing changes that can cause discomfort and disturb healing.  The DuoDERM® Extra Thin Dressing maintains a moist wound healing environment and is recommended for use on skin tears, dry to lightly exuding dermal ulcers, superficial wounds and post-op wounds.

DuoDERM® Extra Thin dressings interact with wound moisture producing a soft mass that enables removal of the dressing with little or no damage to newly formed tissues.  They help isolate the wound against bacterial and other external contamination.

Choose a dressing that will extend at least 1-1/4" beyond the wound margin. Cleanse the wound according to hospital practice.  Irrigate with saline and dry the surrounding skin to ensure it is free of any greasy substance.

Indications for DuoDERM® Extra Thin

  • Management of superficial, dry to lightly exudating dermal ulcers
  • Post-operative wounds
  • Protective dressings

Applying ConvaTec's DuoDERM® Extra Thin Dressing

1.  Minimize finger contact with adhesive surface.

2.  Apply in a rolling motion, avoid stretching.

3.  Smooth into place, especially around the edges.

4.  When applying to a heel or elbow, it may be helpful to cut a slit approximately 1/3 across each side of the dressing to facilitate application.

5.  On a sacral ulcer, press into anal fold (a). Depending on the location and depth of the sacral ulcer, the triangle shaped dressing may be applied in different directions (b).

6.  Use hypoallergenic tape around the edges to secure.

Removing The DuoDERM® Extra Thin Dressing

Press down on the skin and carefully lift an edge of the dressing.  Continue around until all edges are free.  Repeat cleansing procedure.  It is unnecessary to remove all residual dressing material from the surrounding skin.  Leave the dressing in place (not more than 7 days) unless it is uncomfortable, leaking, or there are clinical signs of infection.
