How to Measure, Cut and Apply

Measure Your Stoma

Use a stoma measuring guide at the base of the stoma. Re-measure regularly, especially in the first weeks after surgery.

Cut the Opening

Trace your size on the backing paper, then trim the opening about 1/8" larger than the stoma so skin is not exposed.

Tip: Smooth the Edge

Rub the cut edge gently with a clean finger so it does not catch on the stoma.

Apply and Attach the Pouch

Remove the backing, center the barrier around the stoma, press it onto clean, dry skin, then click on the pouch.

When to Change the Barrier

Change on your ostomy nurse's schedule, or sooner if you notice leaking, itching or burning.
